Skip Navigation Links.           We're cleaning up the regatta site now, but thanks to all the competitors for coming and for all the volunteers who made it possible. The 2008 regatta will be on October 11 and 12 (NOT 4 and 5), and will be one week before the Head of the Charles Regatta. We think the Genesee with flat water and challenging turns makes a great prep race!

This year marks a turning point for the Head of the Genesee Regatta.  The Regatta was originally started to bring high level collegiate rowing competition to the City of Rochester , and from its inception, the Regatta has attracted traditional collegiate rowing powers. .

Sweep and Sculling Events offered Saturday, October 11, 2008, include competition for Junior, Open, and Masters athletes.  Racing will be head race style (starting at 15 second intervals racing against the clock), over a 3 mile race course throughout the day.  Medals will be awarded in every racing category offered.  Saturday’s competition will conclude with Corporate Challenge Competitors competing side by side over a course approximately 450 meters long, in full view of the spectators in Genesee Valley Park .

Collegiate athletes will be the sole competitors on Sunday, October 12, 2007, and once again will race two times during the day.  Morning Racing will be done on the 3 mile course; ALL COLLEGIATE COMPETITORS will participate in afternoon sprint racing, two boats at a time, racing side by side on a 1500 meter course.  The head race and sprint race times will be combined to determine placement in each event.

For 2007 Regatta management passed from the administrations of the University of Rochester and the Rochester Institute of Technology, (and their respective rowing programs) to the Genesee Waterways Center, the site host of the event since the regatta’s inception in 1989.
